What's This Course About

AI for Early Childhood shows preschool teachers, early childhood educators and centre leaders how to bring generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and AI image generators into their work in safe, practical and developmentally appropriate ways. AI can help educators plan lessons, create engaging learning materials, prepare documentation and communicate with parents more efficiently, giving them more time to focus on the children. No technical background is required.

You will start by getting started with AI for early childhood, understanding what generative AI can and cannot do, how to write effective prompts and how to use AI responsibly with young children's information. Next you will use AI for lesson planning and learning materials, creating themed lesson plans, activity ideas, songs, rhymes, stories and worksheets aligned to early learning frameworks and children's interests. You will then use AI for creative classroom content, generating illustrations, flashcards, posters, simple storybooks and play-based activities.

The final topic covers AI for documentation and parent communication, using AI to help write observations and learning stories, summarise children's progress, draft newsletters and prepare clear, warm messages to parents. Throughout the course you will discuss child safety, privacy, consent and the importance of keeping educators' professional judgement at the centre. Every activity is hands-on. By the end, you will be able to use AI confidently to save time and enrich teaching and learning in your early childhood setting.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

Creating learning experiences for children with AI is one of the more joyful parts of Dr. Alfred Ang's work. Dr. Ang is a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect, corporate trainer and CTO of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd in Singapore, building intelligent agents and EdTech solutions end-to-end across front end, back end, databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps, with more than 300 public repositories on GitHub. The flagship project for this course is AI Kids Academy, a learning portal for children aged four to sixteen that offers gamified AI storytelling, coding, game development, phonics and escape-room activities. Companion native apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, free on the App Store and Google Play, add an offline phonics quest and branching story books that children can explore at their own pace. Dr. Ang has also built a phonics and pronunciation trainer, logomaker for generating images with Gemini and OpenAI models, videocreation for turning a topic into a narrated, animated video, and lipsyncdemo, which turns a portrait and a script into a talking avatar, a playful way to bring a story character to life. For classroom interaction, a Padlet-style digital pinboard and a real-time live polling app support collaborative activities. Together these projects show what AI can create for young learners, and where adults must carefully curate, check and supervise. Building for children has made Dr. Ang especially careful about content safety, accuracy and age-appropriate design.

AI for Early Childhood brings that experience to preschool teachers, early childhood educators and centre leaders. The first topic, getting started with AI for early childhood, introduces tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and AI image generators, and sets clear ground rules on child privacy, safety and age-appropriate use. In the second topic, AI for lesson planning and learning materials, participants use AI to draft themed lesson plans, adapt activities for different developmental stages, and produce worksheets, songs and simple games, always reviewing the output against their own professional judgement. The third topic, AI for creative classroom content, is the most hands-on: educators generate illustrated stories, characters, colouring pages and short animated clips, using approaches Dr. Ang developed while building the storytelling and phonics apps. The final topic, AI for documentation and parent communication, shows how to turn observation notes into clear learning stories, progress summaries and friendly newsletters while protecting children's personal information. Dr. Ang keeps the session warm and practical, with live demonstrations, guided practice and plenty of time to try ideas from participants' own classrooms, and no technical background is needed. Educators leave with a folder of ready-to-use resources and the confidence to keep experimenting responsibly.
