What's This Course About

Gemini for Google Sheet shows you how to use Gemini, Google's AI assistant, inside Google Sheets to build formulas, clean and organise data, analyse trends and create reports in a fraction of the usual time. Instead of searching for the right function or manually reworking data, you can describe what you need in plain English and let Gemini do the heavy lifting while you check and refine the results. The course is designed for professionals, administrators, analysts, teachers and anyone who works with spreadsheets in Google Workspace.

You will start by getting started with AI in Google Sheets, learning how to access Gemini in the side panel, write effective prompts and use AI to create tables, generate formulas and explain how existing formulas work. You will practise cleaning and organising data, such as removing duplicates, splitting and combining columns, standardising formats and categorising entries. Next you will analyse and automate data with AI in Sheets, asking Gemini to summarise data, highlight trends and outliers, build pivot tables and charts and suggest insights.

Throughout the course you will also learn how to use AI functions to process text and data at scale, connect Sheets with other Google Workspace apps and automate repetitive steps. You will cover how to verify AI results and protect sensitive information. Every exercise is hands-on with realistic business datasets. By the end, you will be able to use Gemini in Google Sheets confidently to work faster, reduce errors and turn your spreadsheet data into clear, useful insights.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

Google Sheets is often where AI first meets everyday work, and it already sits at the end of several automations Dr. Alfred Ang has built. Dr. Ang is a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer, and the CTO of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd in Singapore, the training organisation behind Tertiary Courses. The role covers front end, back end, databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps, and more than 300 public repositories on GitHub show what has come of it. One project is an AI inventory audit and forecasting agent built on n8n: a local language model reads stock levels, flags items below their reorder threshold, computes replenishment quantities and writes the results to Google Sheets before sending a summary by Gmail. Another is a warehouse dashboard that loads CSV data into a filterable, sortable table and derives a stock status for every line, the kind of logic many teams still maintain by hand in spreadsheets. Dr. Ang also works regularly with Gemini, which powers a Telegram document agent that answers questions from uploaded files, a course chatbot on n8n, and a logo maker that generates brand options from a text description. Other projects include a stock-analysis dashboard with live charts, an HR and accounting platform with leave accrual and payroll calculations, and n8n email workflows that keep subscriber lists synchronised. Across all of them, the recurring lesson is that AI output becomes useful only when it lands in a tidy, well-structured table that people can check and trust.

That lesson anchors this course. The first topic introduces generative AI and Gemini in Google Sheets, shows how to set up and access the AI features, and then uses them to generate and explain formulas, so learners understand a formula rather than simply pasting it in. Effective prompting for spreadsheet tasks is practised early, because the difference between a vague request and a precise one is often the difference between a correct column and a subtly wrong one. The second topic applies AI to real data: cleaning, transforming and organising messy sheets, summarising and analysing datasets, and creating tables, charts and visualisations that tell a clear story. The course closes with validating AI output and applying AI safely to work data, covering spot checks, totals that should reconcile and what information should never be pasted into a prompt. Dr. Ang teaches with realistic business sheets such as sales lists, stock registers and attendance records, demonstrating each technique live before learners repeat it on their own copy. The pace suits office professionals, administrators and managers with no programming background, while more confident users pick up time-saving shortcuts. Participants leave able to clean and analyse data, build charts and write formulas with AI assistance, and with the judgement to check every result before it is shared.
