What's This Course About

Business Negotiation Masterclass equips you with the strategies, techniques and confidence to negotiate better outcomes in business, whether you are closing a sale, agreeing a contract, managing suppliers, resolving disputes or negotiating internally. Skilled negotiators create value for both sides, protect their interests and build lasting relationships. The masterclass is designed for managers, sales and procurement professionals, business owners, account managers and anyone who negotiates as part of their work.

You will start with preparation for negotiation, the stage where most negotiations are won or lost. You will learn how to identify your goals and desired outcomes, understand the context and the other party's interests, determine your BATNA (best alternative to a negotiated agreement), set your walk-away point and plan your opening position and concessions. You will also explore different negotiation styles and how culture, power and relationships influence the process.

The second topic covers negotiation tactics, including building rapport, asking powerful questions, active listening, anchoring, framing offers, trading concessions, handling pressure tactics and deadlocks, and closing the deal while preserving the relationship. You will also learn how to negotiate ethically and follow up effectively. Role plays and realistic business scenarios let you practise each technique and receive feedback. By the end of the masterclass, you will be able to plan and conduct negotiations confidently and achieve better results for your organisation.

Dr. Alfred Ang is a Distinguished Toastmaster, the highest educational award in Toastmasters International, and has won many public speaking awards. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore, an MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from NTU and a BSc (Hons) in Physics from NUS, and spent more than 20 years in the defence, electronics and semiconductor industries, where he co-invented more than 20 US patents and published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers. He is also a PMP-certified project manager and a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, so his soft-skills training stays tied to real workplace results rather than theory.

In Effective Negotiation Training, Dr. Ang draws on his experience building client relationships, partnerships and a franchise network across Singapore, Malaysia and Ghana. Learners prepare for a negotiation by setting goals, understanding the other side's interests and defining their walk-away point, then practise negotiation tactics, persuasive communication, handling pressure and closing an agreement that works for both parties. His public speaking and evaluation experience helps learners speak with calm authority, and realistic role-plays with feedback build confidence for the next real negotiation.
