Semiconductor Process Fundamentals Masterclass gives you comprehensive knowledge of the CMOS process modules and process flow used in modern semiconductor manufacturing. Understanding how each module works and how modules are integrated is essential for engineers and technicians who need to control processes, solve problems and improve yield. This masterclass is designed for process, equipment, yield and integration engineers, technicians and technical professionals who are new to or growing in the semiconductor industry.

You will start with CMOS process modules and the process flow, covering wafer preparation, oxidation, photolithography, etching, thin film deposition, ion implantation, diffusion and annealing, chemical mechanical planarisation and metallisation. You will learn the purpose of each module, the key equipment and process parameters, and how they come together in a typical CMOS flow from isolation and well formation to gate, source and drain and interconnects.

The second topic focuses on CMOS process integration and performance, examining how process variation and interactions between modules affect transistor characteristics, reliability and yield, and how metrology, inspection and statistical process control are used to keep processes in control. You will work through practical examples of common process issues and their root causes. By the end of the masterclass, you will understand the CMOS manufacturing flow and be better equipped to support process control and yield improvement.

Dr. Alfred Ang brings an engineering and research perspective to semiconductor technology: his doctoral research at the National University of Singapore was in microelectronics and quantum effects in semiconductor devices, built on a first degree in Physics. He also holds an MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from NTU and spent more than 20 years in the defence, electronics and semiconductor industries, where he co-invented more than 20 US patents and published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers. Today he is the Chief Technology Officer of Tertiary Infotech Academy and founded Tertiary Infotech Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia in 2016.
