FMEA Masterclass equips you with the knowledge and practical skills to perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, a structured method for identifying potential failures in a product, process or system, assessing their risk and taking action before they occur. FMEA is widely used in manufacturing, automotive, electronics, medical devices, aerospace and service industries to improve reliability, safety and quality. The masterclass is designed for engineers, quality and reliability professionals, process owners and team leaders.

You will start with an introduction to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, understanding the purpose and benefits of FMEA, the differences between design FMEA and process FMEA, and how FMEA fits with other quality tools and standards such as the AIAG-VDA FMEA handbook. Next you will learn how to perform an FMEA, defining scope, building a cross-functional team, analysing functions and process steps, identifying failure modes, effects and causes, and rating severity, occurrence and detection.

The final topic covers interpreting FMEA results and recommending follow-up actions, using risk priority numbers and action priority to decide where to focus, developing preventive and detection actions, assigning responsibilities and updating the FMEA as changes are made. Practical workshops let you complete an FMEA on a realistic product or process. By the end of the masterclass, you will be able to lead FMEA sessions confidently and use the results to reduce risk and improve quality.

Dr. Alfred Ang is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a PMP-certified project manager who has applied data-driven process improvement throughout his engineering and technology career. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore, an MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from NTU and a BSc (Hons) in Physics from NUS, and spent more than 20 years in the defence, electronics and semiconductor industries, where he co-invented more than 20 US patents and published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers. Today he is the Chief Technology Officer of Tertiary Infotech Academy and founded Tertiary Infotech Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia in 2016. As CTO he leads the planning, delivery and continuous release of the course-registration and learning management platform behind the Tertiary Courses websites in Singapore, Malaysia and Ghana, coordinating developers, trainers and operations staff across three countries. Measurement, root-cause analysis and process control were part of his daily work in semiconductor and electronics engineering, and he still applies Lean thinking to reduce waste and rework in software releases and training operations. A Distinguished Toastmaster who has won many public speaking awards, he makes statistical tools and the DMAIC roadmap easy to follow.
