What's This Course About

Semiconductor Device and Process Integration Masterclass gives you an in-depth understanding of semiconductor device physics and how individual fabrication processes are integrated to produce working, reliable devices. As devices continue to shrink and become more complex, engineers need to understand how each process step affects device performance and yield. This masterclass is designed for process, device, integration, yield and equipment engineers, technicians and technical professionals working in or entering the semiconductor industry.

You will start with the fundamentals of device physics and device fabrication, covering semiconductor materials, energy bands, doping, carriers, p-n junctions and the operation of MOSFETs and other key devices. You will then review the major fabrication steps, including oxidation, lithography, etching, deposition, ion implantation, diffusion, chemical mechanical planarisation and metallisation, and how they combine to build front-end and back-end structures.

The second topic focuses on process integration issues, examining how process interactions affect threshold voltage, leakage, reliability and yield, and exploring challenges such as short-channel effects, isolation, contact and interconnect resistance, and defect control. You will analyse real integration problems and discuss approaches to solving them. By the end of the masterclass, you will understand the link between device physics and fabrication, and be better able to diagnose integration issues and contribute to improving device performance and yield.

Dr. Alfred Ang brings an engineering and research perspective to semiconductor technology: his doctoral research at the National University of Singapore was in microelectronics and quantum effects in semiconductor devices, built on a first degree in Physics. He also holds an MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from NTU and spent more than 20 years in the defence, electronics and semiconductor industries, where he co-invented more than 20 US patents and published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers. Today he is the Chief Technology Officer of Tertiary Infotech Academy and founded Tertiary Infotech Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia in 2016.

In Basic Semiconductor Devices Course, Dr. Ang explains how chips are made and why they behave as they do. Learners cover semiconductor materials and device physics, wafer preparation, oxidation, lithography, etch, deposition, doping and CMP, and how these steps are integrated into CMOS devices, together with metrology, defects and yield. His research in microelectronics and quantum effects helps learners understand what happens inside a transistor as devices shrink, and his industry experience connects each process step to real manufacturing and product decisions.

is an accomplished IT and data specialist with over 20 years of experience in academia, ICT leadership, and professional training, with a strong focus on data analytics and Excel-based solutions. He has developed and delivered specialized training programs on Statistical Data Analysis with Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) for Excel, equipping learners with advanced data manipulation, automation, and reporting skills. His expertise extends to automating institutional reporting systems, where he successfully streamlined academic records management through Excel-based tools, integrating macros and automation to improve efficiency and accuracy. As a trainer and consultant, Dr. Siraj has taught Excel to diverse audiences, including university staff, administrative teams, and professionals in banking, security, and education, ensuring they can apply Excel for decision-making, statistical modeling, and process automation. His practical mastery of Excel is complemented by his deep knowledge of office automation and ICT project management, making him a highly sought-after trainer in data analysis and productivity tools. With his blend of hands-on technical expertise and instructional experience, Dr. Siraj stands out as a credible authority in leveraging Excel to drive organizational efficiency and data-driven strategies
