What's This Course About

Microsoft Copilot for Power BI shows you how to bring AI into your business intelligence workflow using Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant built into Power BI and Microsoft Fabric. Copilot can create report pages from a simple prompt, suggest visuals, summarise insights in plain language, help write DAX measures and answer questions about your data, making analysis faster and more accessible. The course is designed for analysts, report developers, managers and business users who build or consume Power BI reports.

You will start by getting started with Copilot in Power BI, understanding the requirements, where Copilot appears in Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service, and how to write prompts that produce accurate, useful results. You will learn how to prepare your semantic model with clear names, descriptions and relationships so Copilot understands your data. Next you will create reports and visuals with Copilot, generating report pages, refining charts and layouts, and adding narrative summaries that explain key trends to your audience.

The final topic covers AI-assisted data modelling and analysis, using Copilot to suggest and explain DAX measures, explore the data with natural-language questions, identify outliers and drivers, and validate results. Throughout the course you will learn the limits of Copilot, how to check its output and how to apply data security and governance. Every exercise is hands-on with realistic business datasets. By the end, you will be able to use Microsoft Copilot in Power BI to build insightful reports faster and with confidence.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

Making data easy to read is a common thread in the work of Dr. Alfred Ang, a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer. As Chief Technology Officer of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd, the Singapore training organisation behind Tertiary Courses, Dr. Ang builds solutions end to end, from front ends and back ends to databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps, and many of them centre on reporting. The admin dashboards of the ai-mms course-registration platform, which runs the Singapore, Malaysia and Ghana sites, surface registrations, classes and rosters drawn directly from a MySQL database. Dr. Ang has built project-portfolio dashboards with KPI tiles, status charts and timelines, a warehouse inventory dashboard with derived stock status, and a stock analysis dashboard that combines live market charts with an AI agent interpreting the trends. An inventory forecasting agent running on a local language model calculates projections and flags exceptions automatically, and the HR and accounting platform built for the academy aggregates leave, attendance, payroll and expense data for management. Data modelling skills show up across PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQLite projects, and interactive Python and Streamlit labs teach data mining and machine learning to beginners. A real-time polling app with live charts and a certification practice-exam platform add further experience in capturing and presenting results. All of this work, more than 300 public repositories, is available on GitHub. Each one began with the question of which number a manager actually needs to see.

In Microsoft Copilot for Power BI, Dr. Ang applies that experience of designing reports people actually use. The course starts with getting started with Copilot in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric: what Copilot can do, how it relies on a well-prepared semantic model, and how to write prompts that describe the business question clearly. In the second topic, learners create reports and visuals with Copilot, generating report pages from a prompt, asking for suggested visuals, refining layouts and adding narrative summaries that explain insights in plain language. The third topic covers AI-assisted data modelling and analysis, including naming tables and columns so Copilot understands them, defining relationships, writing and explaining DAX measures with Copilot's help and asking questions of the data to uncover trends and outliers. Dr. Ang stresses validation throughout: checking that a generated measure calculates what the business means, comparing totals against source data and knowing when to build a visual manually. Each concept is demonstrated live on a realistic dataset before learners repeat the exercise themselves, with time to troubleshoot and compare results. Discussions cover licensing and capacity requirements, data security and how to roll out Copilot features to a reporting team sensibly. Learners leave with a completed report, a set of tested prompts and a clear approach to using Copilot for faster, more reliable business intelligence. Learners also practise explaining Copilot-generated insights to colleagues who did not build the report. To see the dashboards and data tools Dr. Ang has built, visit https://github.com/alfredang
