What's This Course About

Microsoft Copilot for Power Apps shows you how to build business applications faster with AI using Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant built into the Power Platform. With Copilot, you can describe the app you need in plain English and have it create a working canvas app with tables, screens and controls, then refine it through conversation. The course is designed for business users, analysts, citizen developers and IT professionals who want to digitise processes and build useful apps without traditional coding.

You will start by getting started with Copilot in Power Apps, understanding the Power Platform, environments and Dataverse, and creating an app from a natural-language description. You will learn how to write prompts that produce the right data structure and screens. Next you will build canvas apps with Copilot, adding and editing tables, designing screens and forms, generating Power Fx formulas with Copilot's help, and improving layout, navigation and usability.

The final topic covers automating and extending your apps with Copilot, connecting to data sources such as SharePoint and Excel, building Power Automate flows for approvals and notifications, and adding a Copilot control so users can ask questions about the app's data. Throughout the course you will also cover sharing, security and governance considerations. Every exercise is hands-on with realistic business scenarios. By the end, you will be able to build, extend and share practical business apps with Microsoft Copilot for Power Apps.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

Dr. Alfred Ang approaches low-code app building from the perspective of someone who also writes full production systems by hand. Dr. Ang is a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer, and serves as CTO of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd, the Singapore training organisation behind Tertiary Courses, building business solutions end-to-end across front end, back end, databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps. More than 300 public repositories on GitHub show the breadth of that work, and many of them solve exactly the kinds of process problems that Power Apps targets. Dr. Ang built an HR and accounting platform for Tertiary Infotech on Next.js with role-based access, leave accrual and clock-in attendance, along with native iOS and Android apps for leave, payslips, expenses and in-app approvals. An ERP prototype handles purchase orders with human-in-the-loop approvals and three-way invoice matching, and a self-service HR portal on n8n routes leave requests to managers before updating a live dashboard. Dr. Ang also built a digital business card platform with a Kanban-style CRM and a single-file warehouse inventory dashboard. Having designed data models, forms, approval flows and dashboards in code, Dr. Ang can show where low-code tools save time and where careful design still matters. Building these systems has given Dr. Ang a clear understanding of how approvals, records and dashboards fit together in a working organisation, and of the common pitfalls such as poorly structured data, unclear ownership and processes that are digitised without first being simplified.

In Microsoft Copilot for Power Apps, Dr. Ang helps business users, analysts, citizen developers and IT professionals build useful apps quickly with AI. The course starts with getting started with Copilot for Microsoft Power Platform, describing an app in plain English and letting Copilot create tables, screens and controls before refining the result through conversation. The second topic, aligned to PL-7001, covers creating and managing canvas apps with Power Apps, including layout, formulas, data connections and sharing. Topic three, aligned to PL-7002, moves to Power Automate, where learners build automated processes such as approvals, notifications and data updates triggered from their apps. The final topic, aligned to PL-7003, introduces model-driven apps with Power Apps and Dataverse, covering how a well-designed data model drives forms, views and business rules. Because Dr. Ang has implemented approval workflows, HR records and inventory tracking in full code, the class pays close attention to the decisions that make a low-code app maintainable, such as structuring tables sensibly, naming consistently and testing flows before rollout. Participants are encouraged to bring a manual process from their own workplace and leave with a working prototype app and flow they can continue to improve. Participants also discuss governance topics such as environments, data security and sharing permissions, so that apps built by citizen developers remain safe, supportable and aligned with IT policies, and so that successful prototypes can be scaled across departments without creating a maintenance burden later on.
