What's This Course About

Blockchain Fundamentals Masterclass gives you a clear, practical understanding of blockchain technology and how it powers cryptocurrencies, smart contracts and decentralised applications (dApps). Blockchain enables trusted, tamper-resistant records without a central authority, with applications in finance, supply chains, digital identity and more. The masterclass is designed for business professionals, developers, IT staff, entrepreneurs and anyone who wants to understand blockchain and Web3 beyond the headlines, with a hands-on, AI-assisted approach to building.

You will start with the fundamentals of blockchain, cryptocurrency, smart contracts and Web3, covering how blocks, hashing, consensus mechanisms, public and private keys and wallets work, and the differences between major networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. You will also discuss real-world use cases, benefits and limitations. Next you will develop a simple dApp using vibe coding, directing AI coding assistants to write a Solidity smart contract and connect it to a web front end.

The course continues with smart contract testing, learning how to test contracts on a local blockchain and identify common security vulnerabilities, followed by smart contract deployment to a test network and interacting with it through a wallet. Throughout the masterclass, concepts are explained step by step so no prior blockchain experience is needed. By the end, you will understand how blockchain works, be able to evaluate blockchain opportunities and have built and deployed your own simple decentralised application.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

Blockchain applications succeed or fail on the same foundations as any other web software: a usable front end, careful handling of payments and keys, and code that has been reviewed before it touches real value. Those foundations are where Dr. Alfred Ang brings experience. Dr. Ang is a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer, and the CTO of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd in Singapore, the training organisation behind Tertiary Courses, building intelligent agents and business platforms end-to-end across front end, back end, databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps. More than 300 public repositories on GitHub record that work. Smart contracts are not among them, and Dr. Ang says so openly; the relevant experience is in the surrounding stack. Dr. Ang has built full-stack web applications on Next.js and React, including a certification practice-exam platform with multi-gateway checkout and a tutor marketplace that takes payments through Stripe. Security is a recurring theme: several sites ship with hardened content security policies, an IT service desk demo includes a guard against users pasting credentials, and a published Claude Code skill scans repositories for leaked secrets before code is pushed. An ERP prototype matches purchase orders, deliveries and invoices and routes approvals to people over email and Telegram, an exercise in building tamper-resistant audit trails. Above all, almost everything in the portfolio was written alongside AI coding assistants, so Dr. Ang knows first-hand both how quickly AI can produce working code and how confidently it can produce insecure code.

That balance of speed and scepticism is what this course teaches for blockchain development. Learners are introduced to blockchain, smart contracts and vibe coding, set up AI coding assistants such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Claude, and generate and deploy a first smart contract with AI help on a test network. Effective prompting for blockchain code generation is covered explicitly, because a vague prompt can yield a contract that compiles but behaves in ways nobody intended. The second topic connects smart contracts to a decentralised application front end, the part of the stack closest to Dr. Ang's own web work, and then turns to testing and debugging contracts with AI. A full session is given to reviewing, auditing and securing AI-generated code, examining common vulnerability patterns and asking the assistant to critique its own output, before learners deploy and interact with their finished blockchain app. Dr. Ang's teaching style is hands-on and safety-first: every contract is treated as if real funds depend on it, every generated function is read and explained before it is accepted, and learners practise spotting the gap between code that works and code that is safe. Developers new to blockchain, and technical managers who need to judge blockchain proposals, leave with a deployed working app and a disciplined review routine.
