What's This Course About

AI for Network Security equips you with practical skills to apply artificial intelligence to protecting an organisation's network. Attackers are already using automation and AI, and defenders face ever-growing volumes of alerts, logs and vulnerabilities; AI helps security teams detect threats earlier, prioritise risks and respond faster. The course is designed for network and system administrators, security analysts, IT managers and engineers who want to strengthen network defence with AI-assisted tools and techniques.

You will start with AI-assisted network threat and vulnerability analysis, using AI to analyse traffic patterns and logs, detect anomalies and suspicious behaviour, and interpret vulnerability scan results. Next you will cover AI-powered network risk assessment and management, prioritising vulnerabilities by likelihood and impact, mapping threats to frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK, and recommending mitigations. You will then design and implement AI-enhanced network security, including segmentation, firewall and access policies, intrusion detection and automated monitoring workflows.

The final topic covers AI-assisted security incident documentation and response, using AI to triage alerts, summarise incidents, draft response playbooks and prepare clear reports for management. Throughout the course you will also learn the limitations and risks of AI in security, how to validate AI findings and how to protect sensitive data. Hands-on labs use realistic network scenarios. By the end, you will be able to apply AI confidently to monitor, assess and secure network environments.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

Object-oriented programming on the Java Virtual Machine is familiar ground for Dr. Alfred Ang, whose Android work is written in Kotlin, a language designed to run alongside Java and share its libraries. Dr. Ang is a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer, and serves as Chief Technology Officer of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd in Singapore, the training organisation behind Tertiary Courses. Java itself is not the headline language of Dr. Ang's public portfolio, but the concepts this course teaches appear throughout it. Dr. Ang has shipped a long list of native Android apps built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, many of them live on Google Play: an HR client with leave, payslips, expenses and in-app approvals, a document scanner with on-device ML Kit OCR and PDF export, an offline Sudoku game that generates puzzles with guaranteed unique solutions, a GPS running tracker, a learning management companion for learners and trainers, and a children's learning app that includes a LibGDX escape room. Each relies on classes, interfaces, collections, generics and careful exception handling, the same building blocks Java developers use daily. Dr. Ang also builds the web and server side, from the course-registration platform behind the Tertiary Courses websites in Singapore, Malaysia and Ghana to Next.js business systems, working end to end across front end, back end, databases and cloud deployment. More than 300 public repositories on GitHub record this AI-assisted development work in detail.

AI Vibe Coding for Java channels that experience into a structured path from first program to working application. Dr. Ang introduces Java and the idea of vibe coding, then helps learners set up the JDK alongside AI coding assistants such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Claude. The first exercise has learners write and run a Java program directly from a prompt, followed by techniques for prompting precisely enough to get clean, idiomatic code. The second topic covers the fundamentals: variables, data types and operators, control flow, loops and methods, and working with arrays and strings, with the assistant used to explain code and help debug errors rather than simply hand over answers. The third topic is object-oriented Java, where learners design classes and objects with proper encapsulation, use inheritance and interfaces, organise data with collections and generics, and handle exceptions gracefully. Dr. Ang draws on Android development experience to show why these structures matter as programs grow. The final topic brings everything together: reading and writing files, building a console application, testing and improving code with AI, and compiling, packaging and running the finished project. Teaching is hands-on throughout, with each concept generated, run, read line by line and then modified by the learner, so that understanding keeps pace with the speed AI provides. Learners finish with a working Java application and the judgement to review AI-generated code critically.
