What's This Course About

Bring the power of AI into your accounting practice with our hands-on AI for Accounting course. Over 2 days, you will learn how modern AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot fit into the accounting workflow — extracting data from invoices, reconciling bank statements, classifying expenses, analysing financial statements and drafting management reports — no programming background required.

Through guided exercises, participants will apply AI to accounts payable and receivable processing, speed up month-end close tasks, run financial statement and variance analysis, and use AI for tax and GST compliance checks and audit support such as anomaly detection. You will also learn to automate repetitive accounting tasks with AI-powered workflows, keep a human in the loop, validate AI outputs and govern AI use responsibly. By the end of the course, you will be able to use AI confidently to streamline your accounting operations and free you to focus on higher-value advisory work.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

As CTO of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd, the Singapore training organisation behind Tertiary Courses, Dr. Alfred Ang combines the roles of full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer. A large share of that engineering work sits close to finance. Dr. Ang built tertiary-hrms, a Next.js HR and accounting platform covering payroll, payslips, expense claims and attendance, together with native iOS and Android companion apps that let managers approve leave and expenses on the go. Another project is an ERP prototype that handles purchase orders through human-in-the-loop approvals, three-way-matched invoices and low-stock replenishment driven by AI agents and scheduled tasks. Dr. Ang has also written native document-scanner apps that use on-device OCR to capture receipts and paperwork, a travel-expense tracker that converts currencies with live exchange rates, and an n8n inventory forecasting agent running on a local LLM through Ollama so sensitive figures never leave the machine. The registration platform that powers the Tertiary Courses sites in Singapore, Malaysia and Ghana, with its orders, invoices and payment gateways, is another system Dr. Ang designs and maintains. More than 300 public repositories at github.com/alfredang document this practical, build-it-yourself approach. Because these systems handle real money, approvals and audit trails every day, Dr. Ang understands both the efficiency AI can deliver in accounting and the controls needed to keep it accurate and accountable. That same emphasis on traceability, segregation of duties and clean records shapes every system Dr. Ang designs, whether it handles a payslip, an expense claim or a supplier invoice.

That grounding shapes how AI for Accounting is taught. The course opens with an introduction to what tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Microsoft Copilot can realistically do in a finance team, and how to write prompts that produce reliable, well-structured answers. Learners then apply AI to bookkeeping and transactions, extracting data from invoices and receipts, categorising entries and assisting with reconciliations, before moving on to reporting and analysis, where AI helps draft management reports, explain variances and summarise trends for non-finance readers. The final topic covers compliance, audit and automation: flagging unusual entries, documenting procedures and building simple automated workflows while keeping a human reviewer firmly in control. Dr. Ang draws on the approval flows, matching logic and expense pipelines already built into production systems to show where automation genuinely saves time and where professional judgement must stay. Sessions are practical and example-driven, with participants working through realistic accounting tasks rather than abstract slides, and with frank discussion of data confidentiality, accuracy checks and responsible use. Accountants, bookkeepers, finance executives and SME owners will leave with prompts, templates and workflows they can apply on their next working day. Participants also compare outputs from different AI tools on the same task, learning to choose the right assistant for spreadsheets, narrative reports or document extraction, and to keep a clear audit trail of how AI-assisted figures were produced. To see the finance, HR and document-processing systems behind these lessons, learners are invited to browse Dr. Ang's portfolio at https://github.com/alfredang.
