What's This Course About

Step into the exciting world of AI agents with our hands-on AI Agents for Beginners course. AI agents go beyond chatbots—they can understand your goals, reason through problems, use tools and take actions on your behalf, from answering customer enquiries to automating everyday business tasks. In this practical 1-day course, you will learn what AI agents are, how they work and how to build your own using friendly no-code tools—no programming background required.

Through guided exercises, participants will design and build their first AI agents—giving them clear instructions and personas, grounding them on their own documents and knowledge, and connecting them to tools so they can take real actions. You will test your agents, learn best practices for deploying them safely, and explore real-world use cases across customer service, marketing and operations. By the end of the course, you will be able to build and deploy simple AI agents that boost productivity for yourself and your organisation.

Dr. Muhammed Siraj is a cybersecurity specialist and academic with 15 years of experience, serving as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Director of Graduate and Continuous Education at Academic City University in Accra. He holds a PhD in Security in Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where his research focused on blockchain security, an MSc in Information and Communication Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark, and a degree from the University of Ghana. He is a licensed independent assessor with Ghana's Cyber Security Authority, holds leadership roles in national cybersecurity and privacy professional bodies, and is certified as a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) and Certified Data Protection Supervisor (CDPS). Before joining Academic City, he served as Acting Director of ICT and Data Protection Supervisor at Wisconsin International University College. His expertise spans penetration testing, digital forensics, incident response, malware analysis, cryptography, cloud and IoT security, zero trust architecture, cyber threat intelligence, data protection, and governance, risk and compliance.

Dr. Siraj's research interests cover blockchain, cybersecurity, distributed computing, consensus protocols and machine learning, with published work on blockchain consensus security, smart-contract privacy preservation for sensitive records in the cloud, and new consensus mechanisms. This background gives him a distinctive perspective on artificial intelligence: as organisations adopt AI tools, agents and data-driven automation, he helps learners understand how to protect the data these systems depend on, recognise new attack surfaces, and put sound governance, privacy and access controls in place so that AI can be used safely and responsibly. In the classroom he connects technical practice with regulation, privacy and human factors, drawing on real-world security and data-protection cases to show how concepts apply in professional settings, and his experiential, hands-on teaching style has made him a trusted trainer for students and working professionals alike.

For anyone taking a first step into AI agents, Dr. Alfred Ang offers the perspective of someone who builds them for real use. Dr. Ang is a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and corporate trainer, and serves as Chief Technology Officer of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd, the Singapore training organisation behind Tertiary Courses, designing complete solutions from front-end interfaces and back-end services to databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps. The public portfolio of more than 300 repositories on GitHub contains agents at every level of complexity. Simple examples include a no-code retrieval-augmented chatbot on n8n that answers questions from uploaded PDFs through Telegram, and a course-enquiry chatbot for a bakery training centre. More advanced ones include an inventory forecasting agent that runs on a local language model through Ollama, an HR portal whose chatbot is protected by input and output guardrails and whose leave requests go through human approval, and a stock analysis agent that responds on Telegram. Dr. Ang also built a self-hosted, AI-powered learning and training management system with AI agent automation, an AI-powered CMS on the Claude Agent SDK with a self-improving chatbot, a digital-human avatar trained on business content, and an AI interview practice tool where an AI hiring manager questions candidates across six roles. Together, these projects show agents moving from simple demonstrations to genuinely useful business tools that save time every day. Every agent in that list was built to solve a real task, not to impress in a demo.

AI Agents Fundamentals for Beginners uses that range of examples to make agents understandable to non-specialists. Dr. Ang begins with the foundations of AI agents for business: how large language models, reasoning, planning, memory and tools combine into an agent, and how agents differ from chatbots and traditional automation. The second topic moves to building and integrating business AI agents, where learners use beginner-friendly no-code and low-code tools to create an agent, connect it to documents and business applications, and test it with realistic requests. In the third topic, learners apply agents to intelligent business automation such as answering customer enquiries, triaging emails, summarising reports or preparing routine updates, and they identify which tasks in their own role are good candidates. The final topic covers deploying, governing and optimising AI agents: guardrails, human approval steps, data privacy, monitoring and how to measure whether an agent is actually saving time. Dr. Ang avoids jargon, explains each idea with a working demonstration and then lets learners build alongside, so even those with no coding background finish with something that works. Real lessons from deployed agents, including what happens when an agent receives an unexpected question, are shared openly. Participants leave with a working agent, a simple framework for evaluating use cases and the confidence to continue learning. Learners also receive a short checklist for deciding whether a task really needs an agent. To see the full range of agents Dr. Ang has built, visit https://github.com/alfredang
